Disco on Mars

“This collaboration with MCM is a chance for us to reinterpret the brand’s history, as it celebrates its 50^th anniversary, while maintaining a constant drive towards research and experimentation", says Alberto Biagetti, Co-Founder of Atelier Biagetti. “With Disco on Mars we explored space travel as a narrative device, imagining objects that exist somewhere between function and storytelling: elements to be activated, inhabiting a space where sound emerges as an invisible architecture, shaping the experience.”

Combining their shared expertise in product development and design research, MCM and Atelier Biagetti have created an immersive environment in which design, performance and sound are interdependent elements.

Level 1 brings visitors to the heart of the experience: a roller-skating rink overseen by a robot DJ, in partnership with global technology leader ABB, playing music curated by Sound Metaphor DJs. Sound transforms with a more human pulse created by disco’s energizing, superficial exuberance.

Thumping with this vibe, the arena turns into a dancefloor populated by human and robots alike, with choreographed performances throughout the week. The space serves as a playful short-circuit between eras where the pop culture of MCM’s origin years collides headfirst with a new dimension, light years away.

The Lab is an exploration of MCM’s past and future accompanied by new limited-edition pieces that are presented with galactic whimsy.

The ambience is shaped by a sound composition by Michele Tadini that operates as a laboratory of thought composed of signals, protocols, and mechanical rhythms. It evokes a highly technological environment, suspended in zero gravity and immersed in galactic landscapes.

Ascending further, the dome of the Rotonda del Pellegrini becomes a ritual space in zero gravity, where the human voice acts as an ancestral technology, reimagining the sound of the future. The operatic voice of Laura Baldassari performs Casta Diva, the celebrated aria from Norma by Vincenzo Bellini, transforming it into something almost post-human through an original composition written by Michele Tadini.

The environment unfolds as a multisensory space, where a monumental sculpture – the Avatar positioned at the center beneath the main dome, is bathed in soft light, creating an atmosphere of suspension and focused presence. Within this setting, sound becomes a bridge, merging past and future.
